Art Gallery Visits

Today our class visited two local exhibitions on an apparently relevant field trip. While i cannot see the immediate benefit of this to our current unit of Concept Art, it is obvious that some of the work may help us in our upcoming Flash Animation Unit.

The First Visit was to the University of Brighton Gallery to see "Fragile Identities" by William Kentridge. The set composed of two rooms, the first being full of quite random newspaper and book clippings arranged into sets, as well as around 6 stereoscopic images. Although i didn't appreciate the meaning or what not behind them, i found the idea of stereoscopic images quite appealing. Perhaps this is a thought for the future.
The second room comprised of about 8 projectors, each projecting onto the blackout wall windows. While unable to see outside from inside, and vice versa, the screens were visible in both the gallery room and the outside of the gallery. The content of the films was mostly stop-motion animation, the content of which again i didn't appreciate, although what i saw may help in the upcoming Flash module.

The second exhibition was "Pause", a selection of short films, at the Phoenix Gallery. This exhibition i did not find useful at all, with the short films seemingly making little to no sense, as well the content and style appearing completely irrelevant to the course.
